"Finances, the latest court intrigue, Karhold. Just normal friendly things." Harwyn grins, pouring back the last of his drink.

Robyn's smile went glassy at his words. "The North remembers Goodbrother," her tone was now the exact opposite of the light and jovial tone that it had been, "You should be glad that my husband is not here... your head would be rolling around on the floor. Is that the kind of friendly things you are referring to?" she hissed at him, "One day, your wretched life is going to swallow you whole."

Harwyn gave a slow shrug. "You got your Lady back, that's what you should remember. Castle was barely even manned anyways. Maybe leave guards if you really care about something."

"And now we are the best of friends." Killion said, though clearly he could not even convince himself of that as he looked between the pair. "Or allies at the least. Best to leave the past in the past."

"Then get your dogs to stop digging it up," Robyn shot back at Killion, "Only cowards use cowardly tactics. Where is the honour in it?"

"Dogs dig. A lady spends time with one, she shouldn't complain when she gets dirty." he shrugged, clearly amused by their spat. "Honor is for those who can afford it."

"Which cowardly tactics, again? I took a force and attacked a castle. How was I to know you'd left eight guards behind? We don't really knock and ask if it's alright before that part. War is fought, and sometimes you lose. I'm sorry if that hurts your pride."

"I think all of your men versus those eight guards is cowardly, then taking a prisoner and treating her so awfully? What you did was an unprovoked act of aggression. It is not about my pride, it is about senseless destruction. But if nothing else it has taught us a lesson about you, one we had stopped teaching ourselves, so I suppose I should thank you for that."
she he turned to look at Killion.
"your fortunes have risen, perhaps you should consider purchasing some now your off that island of bare rock and moss."

"If memory serves, your father gave us more than enough provocation." Killion reminded her. "Yet he and I set our differences aside and made peace. I provided our aid against Oriax and he promised his against Myr. Now here we are, the stronger for it."
"We are a frugal people and one does not keep a fortune by spending needlessly."

"You can only piss off the whole world for so long before it bites you back," she said, and motioned to herself, "am I not here? Am I not keeping my fathers word? You do not need to talk to me about keeping promises when I have never broken any of mine."
"We seem to differ on what needless spending involves, but perhaps we should leave it there. I would hate for us to fall out."

"You being here was exactly my point. Though some are slow to admit it, we accomplish more as friends than foes." he clarified. "Though afford me the same courtesy and do not imply that I have broken any of my promises."
"Yes, we wouldn't want that. I know how touchy you Northerners can be when you are unable to impose your will and moral codes upon others. Ever on your high horse."

"What is that even supposed to mean?" she asked, "Also I never said you did not keep your promises if you are insecure enough to think I would be implying that then i think that is more your issue than mine, don't you?"
"Let us see you spend a day in slavery and we will see how you feel about us imposing our moral code on others"

"The majority of the known world practices slavery in some for or other, with thralls arguably a more merciful form." he retorted, ordering another round of drinks. If the conversation continued down this path, he had a feeling they would all need it. "Are the serfs of the continent really much better, forced to remain on and work the land of their liege? The only true difference is they are allowed to own property. The son of a serf will always be a serf. The son of a thrall can be whatever he pleases."

"They get paid, they can to at least some extent forge their own path, they live with dignity," she could go on, and did "they know that if someone comes along and messes with them, their knights or lord will deliver them justice and assistance, the son of a thrall can be whatever he pleases? and what options are open to them, that are denied others? The sons of farmers can also be what they please, can take on any trade they find a master for, are you actually trying to tell me the life of one of your thralls in a pit on the iron islands, choking on gas and fumes and then being pissed on by everyone else because they are considered to be worth less than nothing is better than a life farming?"
She sat back a bit, "I would also say the ability to own anything is quite a big one, not some tiny matter."

"With dignity?" he echoed, with a laugh. "You are mixing up a freeman or free tenant and serfs, my lady. A freeman has all of those privileges, but a serf does not. A freeman becomes a serf through force or necessity, much like our thralls. They are paid only in protection, much like our thralls. Serfs are required not only to work on their lord's fields, but also his mines and forests. They are not allowed to purse any other professions." Clearly Killion had spent the last few years doing a bit of light reading on the subject.
"Call it what you wish, but there is little difference between bonded fealty and thralldom. Forced labor is forced labor, you have just chosen socioeconomics as your means for enforcing it rather than actual weapons. I would argue the former has less honor and more cowardice. There is less self-deception in the latter." he stated pointedly, referencing their earlier discussion. "At the end of the day I doubt the measly hovel you allow your serfs brings half as much comfort as the knowledge our thralls have that their children will have the same oppurtunities as any Ironborn."
