Oldtown is assembling for some sort of mobilization as they arrive. Word of dead men and Frances Dayne are spreading across the realm, and what the Reach will do is a question burning in everyone's mind.

Arania is sitting at a well stocked table in her hall, letting everyone take a seat. "Welcome to Oldtown," she greets in her friendly but distant voice. "I know it is soon after Mason Keep but events are waiting for no one."

Arthur Tyrell took a seat nodding greetings to the other lords as he did so. The Lord of Brightwater Keep was one of the youngest present, but at the same time had one of the greatest names.,

Maekar nods,"Lady Arania, are you speaking of Frances Dayne, or another threat?"

"Myr as well," she agreed. "Frances and I have a complicated history, by which I mean he drugged me and ripped my tooth out,@ she said. "But Archmaester Harlan confirms that word from the North is that the dead are rising in places. Eastwatch is burned and the other castles betrayed by their own."

Maekar's brow crinkled, his voice becoming even more hoarse. "Is that related to the rumors about Bear Island? Why would the watchmen betray their brothers, for the dead? It's insanity."

"I don't know," she cheerfully admits. "Which is why I want the Reach's finest to represent us up there. If the living face the dead there are no kingdoms save the one in the light of the gods and the one below the dirt," she said. "Do I have any volunteers? Additionally," she added, "while the Ironborn are a plague upon us, Frances Dayne's threat grows every day he lives. He must die, eventually, while those who remain secure our borders."

Maekar looks around to see if any has volunteered, then shrugs and stands,"I'll go, and pledge a thousand swords to the cause." He looks to each of the most prominent lords in the room,"Arania has the right of it, kingdoms don't matter in a time like this."

"Which do you think is the greatest threat to the Reach in the short term, my lady? asked Arthur. "It appears now we have three threats to our existence. The Dead, Dayne and the Ironborn. " The Ironborn are fighting Frances Dayne, so perhaps,in the interim they will be too busy to pay much attention to the Reach. However if the bulk of our forces are far away in the North, it leaves the Reach virtually undefended. If either the Ironborn or Dayne triumph, we are under threat and perhaps be Ill-prepared to defend.."
He looked at Maekar as he stood. "By the sounds of it one thousand swords will not be enough. How many will be enough? Will the Goldlands join us, if we go?"

"The West has sent three thousand already,@ she said. "It'd be rude to not meet their number."

So three thousand." mused Arthur. "Will Oldtown pledge men?"

"Of course," she said, just a touch of twinges pride at the question. "Two thousand for the ground and two thousand for the ships I'm building."
