Cedric and Balor nod and go to leave. Eliza arches an eyebrow at the curious statement. "I'll take it a bit personally if I end up spitted on your sword," she commented drily. It looks like the party is breaking up.

"If I meet you on the field I will let you pass," Benjen promised, a had outstretched to her, his face smiling.

Eliza made a polite wave. "We can shake when we aren't enemies anymore," she said.

Benjen nodded and turned to Killion. "Well, best to get back on shore." He waves to some servants to carry the table back as he walks to shore swigging a bottle of whiskey.

Good to see you lot again." Killion remarked, arching an eyebrow at Benjen's curious promise. He would not be making the same offer. "If we meet on the field, well, let's make a good show of it."
He smiled as if to say it was nothing personal. He held them no ill will and had found their company rather pleasant, but war was no tea party. Stark should have known that better than anyone. After all, his cousin Kalvin had been forced to slay his own best friend in the Battle of Kings Landing. Taking time to pause, step aside, and tip your hat as you let one foe pass only opened up your back to get stabbed by another.
He followed Benjen back to their camp.

Two days later, the army is up well before dawn, lines forming and arrows and swords sharpened. With forces this close and this vast, real surprise is essentially impossible, and the Jade soldiers and their sellsword augmentees are neatly arranging their own battle lines. The enemy deploys along the river's main areas of crossing, massive squares of infantry forming an impenetrable wall.
These tactics are firm and grounded in proper thinking, but they do not account for the ultimate battle wild card. The dragons have been forced into a secondary role by the automatic crossbows of the Empire, but nothing known can stop Vhagus Targaryen. As Benjen dresses the lines, the sorcerer has spent all night drawing a massive design in the bank of the river, spending hours on it, droplets of his blood on the bank. As the enemy finishes setting up, he moves to a spot where he can overlook the battlefield from and raises his hands.
The riverwater rises into the air, as though placed in an invisible funnel. Twelve feet it all rises, more than enough for the horsemen of the west to stampede across the banks and launch their assault. Having been forewarned of something of the sort, Benjen has placed his finest men to the left flank, where the water had been deepest, and the enemy thusly the least prepared.

Round 1:
Benjen: 378 command Deng: 298
Benjen Stark: 123 Prince Killion Greyjoy: 113 Robyn Stark: 154 Raven: 128 Crowl: 126 Vhagus Targaryen: 311
Deng Zhenjiang, the Phoenix Lord: 155 The Tiger's Might: 113 Cedric Dayne: 193 (passive unlocked at +3) Balor Saan: 141 Eliza Satarys: Using shadow magic of some sort
As the fighting begins, the shock of the assault deals thousands of casualties in just a few minutes, Dothraki trampling the dead and the infantry coming from the mountains crumpling lines. The sheer size of both armies makes a sudden breakthrough impossible, and Cedric Dayne holds the middle virtually single-handedly, nearly killing the heir to Pyke and Tyrosh right at the start. Only the timely intervention of Raven Snow prevents brutal strike, as the swift warrior distracts the western knight. Everyone everywhere is plagued by the wall of bolts flying their way, though the river stops many as Vhagus's spell holds. The emperor tas into the energy released by the blood spilled and summons knives made of shadows that strike down man after man.

Round 1:
Benjen: 149 Cedric: 162
The men clash against each other, meeting almost immediately, and the fighting is brutal as the two master swordsmen hammer away. Benjen tries trick after trick, but if Cedric isn't as good as Kalvin Stark, he is surely better than Markus Dayne was, and he seemingly cannot be fooled.

Round 2:
Benjen: 173 Cedric: 131 (-20)
Benjen is able to finally close the gap on the greatsword wielding knight and shield slams him with all his considerable strength. The knight grunts in pain and waves away any assistance. Eliza Satarys narrows her eyes but holds off on anything.

Round 3:
Benjen: 131 (-35) Cedric: 188 (+6 now, -14 modified)
Benjen goes in to finish the fight, but Cedric waits, waits, waits until he commits to an attack, then the powerful man dodges to the right, and as Benjen goes to counter, he dodges again, faster than almost anyone Ben has ever seen, and his greatsword hammers into his ribcage, and the heir to the north feels a hot popping sensation as one or two splinter.

Round 4:
Benjen: 127 Cedric: 124 Eliza: 147
As the two men prepare to clash again, a black mist envelops their part of the battlefield. They blindly stumble about, slashing a few seconds but the press of battle swiftly carries both men back into their ranks. The odd young Pentoshi woman wipes sweat from her eyes as she glares at the warriors.

Round 2:
Benjen: 411 Deng: 301
Benjen: 123 Killion: 170 Robyn: 130 Raven: 200 Crowl: 146 Vhagus: 289
Deng Zhenjiang: 167 The Tiger's Might: 139 Cedric Dayne: 129 Balor Saan: 161 Eliza Satarys: 98
Raven sneaks up on the sorceress Eliza, using her concentration on the duel and its disruption to get behind her. A second later, and a short sword is stabbed through her heart as the sorceress bleeds out in seconds. The shadows surrounding the field that had been extinguishing some of the Emperor's power vanishes.
Elsewhere on the lines, the chaos is great, as Vhagus's magic decimates any effort at organizing the remaining forces can summon. The eastern dragons of the Jade men are nowhere in evidence, and without any counter-sorcery the emperor can smash entire units with impunity, safe from a mile behind the battle lines. He kills hundreds by himself and the fighting reaches a fever pitch on the edges. Benjen's tactics are blowing holes in the Jade lines.
Vhagus: 65,000 Jade: 80,000

Round 3:
Benjen: 439 Deng: 334
Benjen: 119 Killion: 191 Robyn: 165 Raven: 156 Crowl: 188 Vhagus: 343
Deng: 119 Tiger: 187 Cedric: 141 Balor: 154
The heart and soul of the Jade defense seems broken, as the Order members struggle to kill Raven as she escapes. Cedric Dayne's fury is palpable, and Balor Saan cuts through many men to recover her body. Vhagus cannot be stopped without some sort of countersorcerer, and he is now simply literally raining fire on portions of the army. Ben's army smashes through the forces and by nightfal the battle has ended, Vhagus's army firmly in control of the field. Tens of thousands have fallen.
Vhagus: 57,000, 5500 dead Jade: 61,000, 14,000 dead, thousands captured or fled

As the battle ends, Vhagus walks about, inspecting the wounded and using his fire magic to cauterize wounds too large to stitch. The sounds of the field are unparalleled as the wounded cry out and the river returns to its position.
