"Unfortunately it did once," Ami responded somewhat snarkily as they set off.

After a few weeks, one of Denys's ships containing the small and quiet alchemist arrives. Faeron looks half starved and even odder than he had in Qarth.

Amelia awaited Faeron on the docks in a golden dress, her hair done up in braids, makeup, jewels bla bla bla.
"It has been a long time, friend," She said with a genuine smile. "Though I cannot help but notice that you look unwell."

"Hiding and ships both disagree with me," he said. "What is going on?"

"The drugs, it's killing me," Amelia put simply. "The only person I can think of who could find a cure is you."

"The drug?" Faeron asked. "What drug is this?" He coughed. "Food first." Denys sends him for some fattening up. He turns.
"He always had a rather delicate disposition."

"And he hasn't been paying much attention it seems," Amelia responded, taking out her box and pouch of the powder and holding it out to Faeron, whom she follows. "It increases magical ability, makes it evident in people who didn't even have any. It gives you visions of a man on a throne of ice. If you stop taking it you die."

Faeron sits and begins eating, regarding the substance. "Seems foolish to start taking, then," he whispers. "A drug that gives anyone the ability to use magic...fascinating. A master work, truly." He touches it with his finger and it hisses. "The alchemist making it is of unusual talent. I'm sure you guessed that," he said. "What else do we know of it?"

"I could indeed guess that," Amelia responded, staring down at the substance. "Little else - it wears off fairly quickly, headaches being the first symptoms. I can... barely cast magic without it now."

At that, Faeron looks more curious. "Say again? Cast something. Now." He lights a candle.

Amelia raises her finger and attempts to make the flame larger and larger, making it hover above the candle and float across the room.

Her concentration remains steady, but the flame grows at best a tenth what it should. Faeron frowns as s he struggles at the simple task she should be able to do without thinking. "An anesthetic for magical sensitivity. Fascinating," he muttered. "I need to know everything you do...or suspect."

Amelia frowns and stop the spell, knowing she was putting far to much power into it. "Malryas Bolton first showed it to me, when I was still with Oriax. Oriax wanted to... conduct several experiments with it, though I left him before he did. I believe it is him who I can see on the chair, when the powder has worn off and death is near."

Faeron peered at the dust. "You are expending energy, and achieving nothing." He looked about. "The energy must be going somewhere, else we'd all feel the heat release." He looks...alive, all of a sudden. "So the energy must be tracked."

"Then why don't we do that?" Amelia asked, a smile on her face at seeing Faeron so animated. "Are you ready?" She asked, lighting another candle.
