Uhtred rides up to the estate the morning of the next day, his actual plate and greataxe prominent. He was back in the visage of a lord of war once again. He waits for Diana and he assumes her servants.

Diana arrives with a single maid and some horses. "We'll head east along the road," she said, "but at the third village we only have an old trail to follow."

Uhtred nods and keeps things curt. He broods as they leave the city, but he wasn't used to long silences. After awhile, he attempts to break the monotony of travel "This... hunting lodge. Why were you at it with your guards? Noble ladies here don't usually hunt, do they?"

Diana shakes her head. "No, we have vineyards out there too. But some of the workers quit, so I came to find new ones from local villages. Wine always sells," she said. "And it's a major source of income for us."

"I suppose since the Arbor fell and the war ending, business is picking up again?" Uhtred asked "Did your workers quit because of the animal?"

"Dornish raiders," she said. "And the resulting chaos."

He humphed "the vulture kings men. Now under Ellaria. Makes sense." he says idly "and now wolf monsters. Sounds like you share my luck, ha!"

Diana looks to him. "What happened to you, then?" The trail leading to the vineyards is narrow and dark even in daylight.

The corner of his lip turned up "Took a contract I shouldn't have, served a man I shouldn't have, and then helped kill Bryce Dayne and all his monsters. That, I should have."

Diana nods. "I see. Well, we all do things we regret," she said. "The attack happened about twelve miles from here."

"Then let's head there. The attack, what time did it take place?" Uhtred wondered if the beast was like regular wolves... Or how far this farce would go."

"A few hours after dawn," Diana said. "We were almost at the time for lunch. We have a special spot we always stop that has a pretty view of the surrounding landscape."

People actually lived like this. He was frankly amazed. As they ride towards the spot, he gets quieter. He wasn't observant, but at least he was riding prey who knew how to smell for danger. He payed attention to the horse he was riding on more than anything. If the animal was getting spooked, it was time for him to as well.
"We you said. You and your guards alone, or was there another witness? He asked absentmindedly."

"Me and my guards," she said. "I generally don't waste the oney of bringing many others along. We had little enough to spare, even before this."

"Who's your father? Shouldnt he be taking care of this, not you? Or brother?"
