Appearance: Ser Lyonel Vikary is above average in height with shoulder length blonde hair. He is usually clean shaven, except when on campaign.
Reputation: A dashing cavalry commander and jouster.
Character Personal History: Lyonel Vikary was born the second son of Ser Gawen Vikary and his wife Selyse Marbrand of Ashemark. House Vikary is a house of landed knights sworn to Casterly Rock. The lands of House Vikary are set in an idyllic setting next to a river, between the ruined castle of Castamere, the Crag and Ashemark. The stones of the three story Vikary Hall, essentially a holdfast or Keep, along the river come from Castamere itself. One of two round flankers guard the north side of the Halll forms one end of the holdfast. The other end has the gate building with an arched entrance leading into the enclosure. Inside the courtyard are many stone work buildings and a covered well. There are also a postern gate and a sally port.
House Vikary first came to prominence through the present lord's grandfather Ser Lymond Vikary, whose participation in the troubles after King Robert's death saw him win some renown as a dashing soldier. In 329, aged nearly fifty, Lymond married his first wife. the fifteen year old daughter of the Lord of Brightwater Keep, a junior branch of the Tyrells of the Reach who owed him a substantial debt. Within the year Lymond's eldest son Gawen was born. Unfortunately Catelyn herself died nine years later giving birth to Lymond's second son Tywin. Lymond married again, this time to a Westerling of the Crag, who bore him another son and daughter. Despite Lymond being much older than either of his brides he outlived them both, as well as his elder two sons, dying at the age of 90 in 370.
Upon Lymond's death there was a succession struggle over Vikary Hall, with Lymond's only surviving son 25 year old Denys Vikary claiming the inheritance over the sons of his deceased elder half brother, Gawen. After the legal dispute ended up before King Kyle Lannister, the king found in favor of Denys, only because, it was said, as Denys' sister had become romantically involved with the youngest bother of the Lord of Highgarden, the Kings own cousin. Even though his elder brother refused to accept the verdict and left the Goldlands in protest at the King's decision, Lyonel did so, becoming his uncle's second in command. Indeed the Tyrell connection proved fruitful as the sickly Denys Vikary was in no shape to lead the small group of horsemen they provided as service to the King. What Denys did have was connections. An affinity with horses from his childhood, had seen Lyonel develop into something of a horseman and in the subsequent wars involving House Lannister, he had at his uncle's urging, led men of his household to the King's army as cavalry as well as distinguishing himself in several tournaments. Denys now prevailed upon his sister's lover to use his influence to further advance House Vikary. Lyonel was entrusted with several missions and his successful completion of those gained him much needed experience as well as coming to the notice of the King. All that ended when Denys died suddenly in 376. Denys' sister died in childbirth shortly after, ending their association with the Tyrells. As Jon Tyrell had never shown much interest in his two bastard children by Elaena Vikary, they were both raised at Vikary Hall.
Upon the death of their uncle, there was another familial dispute with Osmund as the eldest nephew of Denys claiming the lands of House Vikary. Lyonel, not wishing to relinquish any of the influence he had gained under his uncle and resenting the six years that Osmund had been absent, resisted his brother's claim. However the right of law and succession was on the elder brother's side and once again Lyonel found himself on the outer. This time it was his turn to leave, travelling to Casterly Rock and taking service with King Kyle.
Osmund himself, although more martial than Denys had ever been, was not head of the House for long. He was injured in the Tournament of the Three Kingdoms and died of his injuries shortly after. Lyonel succeeded as head of the family without opposition from his own younger brothers Damon and Randyll.
Lyonel took part in the siege of Highgarden and the subsequent Battle of Green Fields, fighting valiantly for the new KIng Brynden in defeating Rycherd Tyrell. He has since returned to Casterly Rock, awaiting his next command from the King.
House words: Fierce and proud.
