He thinks, and his eyes are getting red from bursting blood vessels. "He hates...Lady...arania," he said, his voice coming out in shallow gasps. Blood trickles out his ear.

"That's what everyone was talking about before, I remember." She sighed. "But how does flogging me punish Lady Arania? That part of it makes no sense. She and I had never met until the day I spoke with her about my circumstances, when I found out women were to be allowed at the Citadel."

"Trying...to...start....conflict..." he slumps over as blood runs in a stream from his ears, pooling on the ground as he dies.

Morgan shrieked and stumbled in her horror. She'd never witnessed the death of someone she knew before. She gazed at Quentyn.
"Gods! We have to do something about this! We have to make sure he's not found here, Quentyn, quickly, we can't risk you being accused of his murder."

Quentyn was as surprised as she was at the boy's sudden death, but he dismissed her concerns with a wave. "We'll throw him in the bottom of the hold until we leave, then toss him overboard when we get out to sea. No one's going to be searching my ship."

Morgan tried to stifle a pang of guilt, but, after all, she didn't know who Alvin's family was. Unless...
"I'll search his body," she said. "if there's a clue to his family, they should be notified."
She looked down at the corpse.
"We've got to act fast, I think. I promised Lady Hightower I'd help her men deal with the men supplying drugs to the city, but I think that will have to wait, now. If we don't act fast, more will surely die at the maesters' hands. Or worse, they might find out we're here and strike at us."
She turned back to Quentyn. "What do you think? Dare we storm the Citadel?"

"He's a Crakehall. Told me on the walk over." Quentyn replied. "An attack in force might not be best. If we can go in with a few men, find the head of the snake, and cut it off, that might do the job." He paused for a moment, thinking. "And as a lord without a maester, it happens that I have a perfectly good reason to visit the Citadel, and speak with those in charge."

"I could have sworn he was Dornish," Morgan said a little sadly. "He must have lied to one of us. But it doesn't matter now. If you go in, I'm going with you. This is one event I cannot miss. But if you think it's best to take just a few men in your retinue, I will be guided by your judgement."

"It's likely that someone would recognize you. Although perhaps not, if you actually dressed like a woman for a change." Quentyn replied with a smirk. "Revive the old 'salt wife' ruse."

She had to smile at that, despite everything that had happened.
"i could, of course, but I'd have to look rather scruffy and everything, because they know Morgan Brax is highborn. How soon can we get it done? I want it over with, Quentyn, then we can have some time together before I decide where my future lies."

He shrugged. "You want to just go in with a few, we can do that tomorrow. You, me, five men?"

"As you wish, but I go armed," she insisted. "I won't feel safe otherwise, not even with you. And remember. we're searching for the Archmaesters. Lorn in particular."

Quentyn led her out the door, away from the fresh corpse. "Right. It might be wise to let Lady Hightower know what we're planning. If it goes south, we'll need reinforcements."

"Yes. I'll inform Lady Hightower and my brother," she promised. "Can you find me an outfit somewhere? I brought a dress with me but it's fine wool with gold embroidery on the sleeves, much too nice for a salt wife and I don't want it to become bloodstained."

"We'll buy you something. I'm not in the habit of keeping much of a stock in women's clothes aboard."
