He rolled his eyes, and finished stripping off the shirt. "We're not savages, my dear. Somehow I will restrain myself from cutting a child for fun."

"You can say that now, he hasn't made me angry yet," she replied coolly. "Let's have a look then." She walked around Alvin to take a look at his back.

He has one large mark, not a whip wound, but maybe caused by a knife. It looks like he was partially flayed. Tears fill his eyes as they hear the sound of the shirt ripping from the wounded skin.

Morgan frowned. "Who did this to you, Alvin? I know Lord Quentyn has done you no harm. Whatever happened to the maesters flogging you for bedding me? Was that a lie too?"

Alvin shakes his head. He seems confused. "They took..." he struggles to find the words. "An alternative approach to the problem, that's what he said," he spoke haltingly. "One of the archmaesters. Lorn, I think. The Botanist. He..." he thought hard, "I don't remember what he did. Said it was for wanting to keep silent."

"So they cut you instead?" She asked. "Are you actually claiming you never wanted to betray me? You seemed quite happy to do it at their farce of a trial. Did they force you to it? Make threats?"

"No..." he looked about, trying to remember. "They have some drink they gave us, I think. Red wine, I think, but...I can't remember much of the trial," he says. "They said my skin would betray me..." his eyes rolls back in his head and he faints in the chair.

Morgan glanced at Quentyn in frustration. "Gods, what do we do now?" She gave Alvin a tentative shake, then another, a bit harder. She needed him awake, after all.

He snaps to suddenly. "Morgan?" he says, his voice shocked. "What are you doing here?!"

"I'm here for justice," she said, annoyed. "Tell me everything you know about archmaester Lorn. And tell the truth. I'm not sure what Lord Quentyn here will do if he catches you lying to us."

"I can think of a few places to start." Quentyn said. "But all those roads end in sailing out into the Sound and seeing how well he can swim."

Alvin looks about, "who is Lord Quentyn?" He looks to the iron lord. "You? What's going on here?" Be looks about in confusion."

"He's my ally," Morgan said firmly. "That's all you need to know. But I won't hold him back if you give us trouble." She smiled sweetly at Quentyn before turning back to Alvin. "Now, I believe I asked a question. I never did get to meet any of the archmaesters, unless any of them were present at that farce of a trial. Tell me everything you know about Archmaester Lorn. And anything you know about the men who stood in judgement against me, if Lorn wasn't one of them. It will be much easier for you if you help us. I'm not a violent woman but Quentyn's people learn to fight as soon as they can walk."

He looks about and struggles against his bonds a moment. "Lorn? He's the master of Plants. I htink he used to be a knight or something from some Stormlands house." His pupils seem to be dilating out of control. "He does..experiments with plants and all that. Botany and Alchemy, like...you know." He coughed. "He didn't have you whipped though. I don't know who did. Never seen that man before. Said his name was Malcolm."

She sighed. "Malcolm. I have never heard his name. Damn. Never mind him right now. Why would Lorn hate me so much?" She asked. "Was I a threat to the maesters, Alvin?"
