Joanna returned the smile, sure there was a backhanded compliment in there somewhere. She was way too valuable to be sent off for diplomatic missions now, surely the queen knew that. She began feeling like sending her off to the Wall or White Harbor was not such a bad idea after all, not after her pointed comment about Joanna's supposed role as the stepmother of Benjen's two little brats, or her remarks about liking some of her children more than the others. Joanna knew very well what it was like to be her parents' least favourite. "Your last mission?" she asked with the slightest hint of confusion, stepping off the small stand the tailors used for measuring people. "You have to forgive me; there have been so many."

ooc: she s actually being nice. I'm using the fourth wll here to mention that PCs often get sent to do stuff they may not be entirely suited for, because it's a game "Oh, we sent some people to Meereen," she said with a chuckle. "It didn't go entirely to plan." As they are done with the fitting, the queen nods. "Now, I feel the need for some wine. A Dornishmen fleeing Lord Dayne has set up a shop for us...more esteemed residents down the street. Thirsty?"

"A Dornishman?" she questioned, a bit skeptical. "Are you sure that would be fitting? You are the queen, after all." Still, she seemed to relent and smiled a little. "You must tell me more of this Meereen debacle."

"Queens make their own rules of propriety. He makes wine, Joanna. He's also rather ugly. To me, at least," she chuckled. "We'll need a bottle or two for this story."

Joanna was still on the fence about whether the queen was genuinely nice, or bordering on passive agressive with these few weird comments in between, but was not one to turn down good Dornish wine. "In that case, lead the way," she said amiably, linking their arms for the trek down the street.

Oberyn's shop is well appointed, and a bottle is presented gratis. Janelle opens it. "Apparently many of our ladies fell i n lust with King Sirius," she said. "And he spurned them. All."

Joanna raised an eyebrow at this juicy piece of gossip. "All of them?" she asked in disbelief, and laughed a little. "Well then, perhaps he is just not that.. interested in ladies," she offered. Kinda like her brother, although he was not really interested in anyone, as far as she'd gathered over the years. "Were your daughters there, then?"

"Oh, gods no," she laughed. "I'd never tell such a story about them. This was Arania Hightower, Amelia Royce, and some others," she said. She leaned in. "Sirius likes his women, apparently, but from what my little ears told me they got rather overzealous in fighting for his favor." She shook her head. "Can you imagine? Grown noblewomen fistfighting over the right to...copulate with a king? Just to carry his bastard?"

She'd heard relatively little of this Arania Hightower, but more than enough about Amelia Royce to buy that story. "Fistfighting?!" she laughed, and tossed her hair over her shoulder as if something like this was far beneath her. "How lowly. Any proper king would no doubt be uninterested after something like that, you're right." She twirled the wine in her glass and sipped from it. "What was the goal of this.. botched diplomatic trip?"

"The Targaryens wanted ships to break the Ghiscari hold over Slaver's Bay. This was before the rise of that Vhagus fellow, mind you." SHe realizes Joanna was...detained during that time uncomfortably. "We wanted gold for what Malryas and my husband saw as the growing threat of Old Volantis."

Detained, never caught up with anything, and proud of it. She nodded. "I assume they got their ships elsewhere, then?" she asked, although had to wonder why the Targaryens hadn't turned to anyone with a proper fleet instead. The north's was.. meagre at best.

"They made a ceasefire with Ghis, to battle Vhagus," she said. "Fortunately. They aren't much better than the Dothraki, in my estimation. Incestuous wannabe wizards and such." She shudders.

Joanna studied her mother-in-law for a moment and gave a semi-impressed nod at her bold choice of words. "Have you met them yourself?" she asked, and scoffed. "It sure seems like everyone is some sort of a sorcerer these days. There is this one other thing that crossed my mind just now as we were talking about the Targaryens, however. Is it true that Benjen has fathered a bastard by one of them?"

Janelle thought long moment before answering. "I met them, yes. Prince Aenys seemed a decent sort, I suppose. Benjen's decision-making skills were not as finely developed as they are now, my dear. And I imagine two blonde women with royal blood can get what they want, whatever it is."

"The 'finely developed' part might need some revision. Surely you heard of his plan to ride north, Beyond the Wall?" she asked. "Don't get me wrong when I say this, but the Ironborn attack on the Neck might even be a blessing in disguise, considering what it has averted." She sighed and took one last sip, finishing off her glass. "Of course nothing about war could be perceived as a blessing, but out of two evils.."
