Biography:
Darius was born a bastard in Dorne, his mother a servant in Sunspear, his father unknown(Even the house his father belongs/belonged to is unknown to him). He grew up on the streets more than in the palace where his mother worked, and at a young age he had fantasies of someday becoming a knight, though he never had any thoughts on how. By the age of 10 he had started getting into the odd...physical disagreement, and so carried a long stick which he (Badly) used in place of a sword. He received more than his fair share of beatings in this time, and his small size did not help in that regard, however he was frighteningly persistent, and so most weeks would show up with at least one notable bruise or mark.
Darius was 14 when his mother died from a fever, leaving him to fend for himself. His only inheritance was a small coin-purse his mother had saved up during her time as a servant. One can assumed that Darius had heard tales of Tyrosh at some point before her death, for in an impulsive move, the likes of which later became a characteristic of his, he used most of the money to buy passage to Tyrosh.
In Tyrosh, Darius was forced to scrape by for his first 6 months, only just short of begging, until he made enough to purchase an old sword. The first work he found was the result of lying about his age and experience to an naive merchant, who hired him, and elderly sellsword, and 2 others with 2 years on him, needing protection for a caravan. During this contract, nothing happened to require that he use his nonexistent sword skills, however a (very) short sparring match with the elderly mercenary, a Lyseni veteran, his complete lack of training was demonstrated by 15 bouts, each ending in his near immediate humiliation. The two others, twins from Volantis, did not fare much better, though in 2 on 1 they managed to last for 30 seconds before being disarmed. Whether out of pity for the 3 idiots he saw, or because he thought they actually could become competent, the Lyseni agreed to keep working with them, and to train them.
The 4 of them continued to work together for 4 years, in which time the Dedicated Darius became quite skilled with a sword, and as they began to make gold, became quite fond of wine and women, spending almost all of the gold he made on the 2. Interestingly this tendency to drink himself to oblivion was what saved Darius.
It was after a successful contract that the 4 of them were celebrating by spending half their profits in a single night, and Darius was drinking particularly heavily. Unknown to the group, a rival who they had burned had tracked them down, and decided to poison them as payback. He managed to bribe a barmaid into slipping a slow acting poison into their drinks, hoping it would appear that their drinking was what caused their deaths. However, as fortune would have it, Darius downed the poisoned glass just to start on another, and 3 drinks later, half of what he had consumed that night came back out, including a decent amount of the poison. With this they were kicked out, about a half hour before the poison took affect. When it hit, Darius was taken off his feet once again, and this time did not get up for the rest of the night, his companions too.
When morning came Darius was horribly unwell, but alive. His companions however were dead, the fact that they were poisoned was apparent. It took Darius a week to recover, and cost him half of the remaining gold from their last contract to pay for help. Once he had recovered however, he was in a good position, for once he had a decent amount of gold, and the skills needed to earn more. Strangely, what he took from that night was not a fear of poison, so much as a fascination with what he saw as a very useful tool.
As Darius resumed working, he took what time he could to learn about poisons, in particular he wanted to know how to effectively deliver poison to his enemies, however he also learned about the creation of some poisons.
For 4 years he consistently studies poisons, though it is no longer a focus.
He generally remained close to Tyrosh during his time in Essos, and his lack of consistent comrades, combined with his tendency to change sides in disagreements based on arbitrary things that he decided he cared about (He is surprisingly hard to bribe for a sellsword) meant that he with time became known as the 'Bastard of Dorne', a name he took to like, though not as much as the later 'Crimson Bastard'.
At 24 years of age, he finally spent decent money on a weapon, a well made longsword which he named 'Bastards Wrath', a weapon he treasures to this day. His time in Tyrosh eventually had to come to a close however, as his tendency to switch sides when he felt like it burnt almost every bridge he had there.
His decision to return to Westeros was made a year ago, after the last work he could take dried up. With this he once again crossed the Narrow sea. Why he chose to fight for the Goldlands is anyone's guess, but he joined up with them 6 months ago, and while its anyone's guess if he will stay with them, he seems to be enjoying working for them.
Since Arc 2:
4 years ago, Darius once again grew bored of his employers, and deserted the North, travelling across the narrow sea back to Essos to escape several bounties. He drifted between cities, taking small jobs, backstabbing several employers, and making enough gold to get by in a way not unbearable by his standards. 3 years ago however, he decided he had enough of such jobs, and so took a job working for Pentos, dealing with their rebel problem. This Job went for 2 months, in which time he made something of a bad name for himself among the rebels, killing whoever he was paid to, and a few extras.
This ended when he, of course, decided he disliked his current boss. He was sent as part of a raid against a Rebel camp, during a meeting between them and the Ivory Host. The raid was bloody for both sides, and reached its height with Darius and his commander standing opposite to Kraznys, commander of the host. Exactly what prompted it is uncertain, but just before the fight could begin Darius (Figuratively and literally) stabbed his commander in the back, before slitting his throat. From there he was likely taken prisoner, however exactly what did happen is of little importance, only that the Ivory Host alone left the camp, and Darius was now with them.
The past 3 years have been unique, as Darius has stuck with the host this whole time, the longest he has ever stayed loyal to one side. He has unusually thrived here, somehow earning Kraznys' trust to the point where he is now second in command and captain of the Elite guard. How much longer he will remain with the Host is uncertain, however for now he is a dangerous addition.
Appearance/Description:
At 5ft 5, and 55kg, Darius is tiny by almost anyone's standards. His hair, naturally black, he instead chose to Dye red some 8(12) years ago, and has kept that color since. When he does wear a beard, he never dyes it, though he does not often grow it. He is physically in good shape, with an extremely wiry build, perfect for moving around quickly and never staying in one spot. His body bears many scars from his time in Tyrosh, though he has avoided any to the face.
Reputation:
Darius' alias 'The Crimson Bastard' is well earned in multiple ways. He is not known for fighting fair, and has a history of changing sides. Interestingly, when he changes sides has less to do with how much either side can pay him than it has to do with his thoughts of each side at that particular time, and he has previously turned on people against his financial interests. This has lead to him also being referred to as 'The turn-cloak gold Cant buy'. In general, he is known for showing a complete lack of morals either way.
