"The Prince keeps me around for more than just my looks," Amelia responded with a giggle. "Now where have you been, hmmm?"

"I hope he has no interest in them, for I am a poor competitor," he observes. "I do believe the prince's sister wanted a fight with some Dornishmen. I couldn't sit by without assisting." Amelia sees a stain on his dagger. "But that little incident is over." He takes a seat facing her. "I had not really expected you to want to see me again."

"And why is that?" Amelia asked him, crossing her legs and studying Jared with intrigued eyes. "After all, a man who can hold his own against Morrys Tarly is someone to take not of."

"Losing an eye is not holding your own," he quips. "It's surviving. Barely. Lord Morrys turned to face another swordsman rather than finish me, although I'll admit our duel was long." He shakes his head. "And many a woman and child died at their hands that day." He looks to Amelia. "And a woman like you can find talented swordsman anywhere you look."

"Don't I know it," Amelia said, almost to herself. "What seems like a long time ago now I visited the Iron Islands and... well, Clarenca Blackwall and I were closer than friends, though it ended as you can expect."

"I'd have expected you to end up still on the Iron Islands, so you are plenty more formidable than all that," he responded. "You and Benjen Stark go far back, then?" He lights a few candles while they talk. "I've told you of my worst day. What was yours?"

"I've known him longer than I would care to admit, though our friendship has never been a romantic one," She smiled. "Seems I can't even bed a prince." She giggled at that, looking around for some booze. "As for my worst day... the Dothraki sea, when Vhagus Blackfyre had his Bloodriders take me."

Curiously, there seems to be none. Jared sees her searching. "Forgive me, too much alcohol brings the ghosts of the dead back into my thoughts. I try to abstain as much as possible." He looks shocked. "He gave you to his bloodriders? Does he truly believe he's Dothraki?" He holds her hand. "I am very sorry, my lady."

"I fear he needed to appease his newly found allies, and what better way to do that," Amelia responded with an ironic laugh. "I understand... for some alcohol is the answer, for others it just brings it all back."

Jared nods. "Well, he sounds like a right cunt. Do you ride, Amelia?" He rises. "It's cold and brutal out. Perfect weather."

"I do, Jared Fossoway," Amelia replied, rising herself. "I've ridden a lot in these lands, so I can show you a few spots.

Jared smiles. "Sounds like a plan." He holds his head in his hands suddenly. "I lost my horse dueling Tarly. I'm such a shithead."

"They have plenty to spare at Riverrun," Amelia responded, offering out her arm before leading the way to the stables. "Though you do have to promise you won't kidnap me."

"Is that really something that happens?" he asks. "Maybe I was safer fighting Tarly." They rent two horses. "Lead on, my lady."

//////////
A few days before the wedding, Joanna took a walk on the ramparts to get some air. It had become a near impossible task to be left completely alone in a castle that populated, and the stewards and servants organising the whole thing were never far behind, it seemed. She had switched her ermine cloak for a far more inconspicuous dark green one, lined with soft grey fur. Her two guards were tailing her at a respectful distance as she eyed the river down below, wondering if it was already near its freezing temperature, or was there still time.
