The Twins consist of two identical stone castles standing on a margin of the Green Fork of the Trident. They have high curtain walls, deep moats and a barbican and portcullis in each. A stone bridge arches between them, with the bridge footings rising from within the inner keeps. This bridge is wide enough for two wagons to cross abreast, and is guarded by a tower in the middle known as the Water Tower. It is the only crossing point over the Green Fork for hundreds of miles in either direction, from the North to the western riverlands. It lies directly athwart the main route from Winterfell to Riverrun.

Amelia decides to got for a small wander around the camp, mainly to stretch her legs. She wanted to overhear something as well, now that they were in the Riverlands.

Kalvin Stark's army has gotten larger as they move south, and with former deserters they now number nearly thirty thousand. Amelia has a comfortable room at the towers while she waits. Her walk takes her to vendors selling all manner of goods and local village women earning money however they can. She hears little of interest, most talk abotu the treaty with the west, whether Lord Stark planned on honoring it, and Lord Dayne's march across the south.

Amelia continued on her way for a while before going back the Hightower to find Kalvin Stark.

Lord Stark is sitting in his bedroom alone, looking out the window, polishing the plate on his armor. When Amelia knocks, he calls her in.

"Lord Kalvin," Amelia says as she enters. She is dressed respectfully in a thicker dress, now that winter has come. She considered courtesy for a moment, idle chit chat, then quickly put that idea to rest. "I have a question." She studied him. "The Peace, with the Goldlands. What do you make of it?"

He turns to look at her. "Well intentioned, but foolish." He rolls his head around to stretch his neck. "The lions are neither bent nor broken, and the Faith Militant will be growing stronger as time goes on. We need to break them before we discuss peace. They have bled us for a year and a half. It is time they bleed."

Amelia nodded and found something to drink. "They will bleed, Kal, just not against us. What use is a broken kingdom to defend Westeros?"

Kal snorts. "Defend against what? We smash the lions, reclaim the Vale, crush the High Septon's little horde, and then go put Bryce Dayn's head on a pike. Then, if Volantis really wants, we can send a fleet there and show them the fury of House Stark." He looks to her. "If Vhagus thinks he can rule the world, well, he is just a man." He flicks Ice, making a tinny sound. "And men die all the time."

"And Dragons, Kal?" Amelia retorted. "They don't simply die. I saw the beast that Vhagus rides! It could route an army with a single burst of flame. When I last spoke with Malryas Bolton Vhagus had taken Mantarys. By now he is likely already advancing on Volantis."
She softened her features a little. "Kal, not every fight is won with a sword. Ice will drink deep enough in the Vale and against Lord Dayne."

"Armies have brought down dragons before. I'm not saying he's not dangerous, Amelia, I'm saying there's no sense in worrying about dying tomorrow when a poisonous snake is right beside you today." He looks to her. "And I couldn't give less of a damn about what happens to Volantis. Or those inbred libertines in Slaver's Bay." He yawned. "So whaat will you do now?"

"Every city that falls to Vhagus only makes him stronger. If he takes the Free Cities there will be no stopping him." She drank the wine she had poured herself and sat on a chair, legs crossed.
"I haven't decided yet," She stated. "I need to hear from Danya, if she was able to find Nicholas Snow. I need to speak with Bolton as well."

"At the moment, we are at war with the strongest of the Free Cities," Kalvin notes. "Who do you recommend I destroy with this army?" He leans in close to her. "I am not going to forget what happened to my sister. Or Princess Catherine. Or any of them. Blood will repay blood." He adds, "And when was Westeros ever truly united? Not a generation goes by without a major war."

"I haven't forgotten either, Kal," Amelia answered. "Nor has Prince Benjen, I can assure you that. As for this army..." She shrugged. "I am not a general. I don't know where's best to go."

Kal nods in agreement. "I figured. That's all right." He coughs once. "Damn wet cold air." He smiles a bit. "How do you know so much about this Vhagus, anyway? I only remember what those idiot Targaryens said about him." He shrugs. "If they hate him, maybe we'd get along famously."
