Amelia considered her response, all that she had learned recently. In the end she said nothing, choosing to ride in silence.

They ride north, about a dozen miles, until morning. As they do, they see smoke rising from a field before them. The wizard seems to have started a giant plains fire, which burns heavily and spreads rapidly through the wind.

Rather than risk losing Snow by cutting around, Oriax attempts to part the flames like a demonic Moses and ride on through.

Seeing what Oriax was attempting, Amelia closed her eyes and tried to lend her power to the process of parting the flames.

Oriax forgets he has cast more spells in this day than he has in over a year, and as he strains to focus on a galloping horse to cast magic, he realizes that he simply has no ability to ensorcel a candle, much less a wildfire. His horse rears back, throwing him off, landing him into a crumpled heap. Amelia has more luck, but only because she is able to stay on her horse. The flames are simply too widespread to affect.

Oriax stood and dusted himself off, holding onto to what dignity remained. The flames reflected in his cold black eyes as he stared North. Snow's time would come, one way or another. He got back in the saddle and turned back to Eddard's Rest, without a word.

Amelia chuckled quietly as she saw Oriax fall of his mount, before the two followed him back to Eddard's Rest.
