August 7th, 381. As noon arrives, clouds slowly and lazily cover the skies. Across from a stream the castle sits on, a massive red and gold host can be seen approaching from the southwest, moving leisurely. Open farmland ensures any real chance for harassing attacks is forlorn in the fifteen miles closest to the hall, and as the northmen watch, a camp is set up by the followers while the army half-deploys in a half-moon formation designed to repel any aggression.

Knowing that Lefford's host wasn't far off Benjen and Everett Blackwood had positioned their twin hosts where planned, which now sat opposite that of the Westernermen. Benjen sent a rider over to the Lefford host to call a parlay, before asking Everett and Karyl Crowl to join him.
The Prince stood beside his horse, waiting for the two men. A small detachment of personal guards stood nearby.

Karyl Crowl eyes the approaching army with interest as he walked up to the prince. "They the people that need killing?" He asked in earnest.

Benjen wasn't quite able to muster a smile so he simply nodded. "Aye, Karyl. We'll speak to them first though." He took a sip from his whiskey flask and handed it to Crowl.

After a half hour or so, Lord Mitchell Lefford, Ser Geoffrey Swyft, and a half dozen other western lords arrive. Lord Mitchell is in his late thirties and sits straight in his horse. He nods cordially. "Prince Benjen." As the army sets up camp, Benjen sees behind the lords hundreds, maybe thousands, of other men whose banners he doesn't recognize setting up camp, a bit away from the main army.

Crowl tips it to his lips and swallows a mouthful. "Only so much use for words, ain't no battle that I've seen been won with a word."

Benjen nodded to Crowl and when Blackwood arrived they rode out to meet the Westerners, guards in tow.
In between the two armies the two groups meet and Benjen observes his opponents. "Lord Mitchell, unfortunate we could not meet under better circumstances." He eyed the stranger foreign banners, before returning his attention to Lefford.
"Why are you here, in my father's lands?" He asked simply.

Lord Lefford opens a document. "I shall spare you the flowery wording, Prince Stark, but King Brynden desires that Westerns be what it was, one kingdom united. King Terrence thought otherwise." He shrugs. "Perhaps there is more to it, but you expect your men to obey you, as I obey my king." He raises his voice a little. "Surrender now, swear fealty to King Brynden Lannister, and we shall have peace, and continue in our quest to unite the Seven Kingdoms as it was in the age of the Targaryens. A Westerns richer and more peaceful than the one that is before us now, riven by war in every region, and bleeding from the wounds caused by those who wish it harm."

Benjen raised an eyebrow, not having expected that answer. "It seems your king is as ambitious as he is young, Lord Lefford. While I cannot fault him, I will have to decline. I trust my father more as a king than I ever would an untested boy. Anyone should be wise enough to see that."
He narrowed his eyes. "Rest assured that you and your men will be treated with all honours, once you are defeated."

Lefford nods. "I appreciate the gesture." He seems ready to turn about when Ser Geoffrey speaks.
"Prince Benjen, we have heard tales in the West of a creature you employ known as the Crowl. How he eats the hearts and brains of his enemies, and of his bestial nature." His dark eyes glittered as he spoke. "Ser Hollis wished the honor of killing him himself. I had other ideas." He turns to Lord Lefford. "Single combat. North versus West. If we win, you surrender Acorn Hall and fall back to Raventree and Stone Hedge. If you win, we return to the Golden Tooth for two months." Lefford looks annoyed at the idea, but is unwilling to challenge the proposal in front of the other lords.

Benjen makes a show of considering the matter for a few seconds, then shakes his head. "I cannot accept that proposal, Ser Geoffrey. If you wish to fight the Crowl you will need to hunt him down on the battlefield."
The Prince looked to Lord Lefford and nodded, showing that he was aware of the man's annoyance. "If there is nothing more to discuss then let us return to our hosts and prepare for battle."

Swyft shrugs, and the western lords return to their tents.
