"That I shall," she said, already going back to her desk, and dismissed him with a wave of her hand.

After the Lannisters' return to the West, Lord Jaymes and his retinue left the war council at Casterly Rock for a day or two to see to certain matters at Lannisport. The septon Martyn was invited to the lord's solar around midday, as per Roland Brax's recommendation.
Jaymes himself was currently skimming through the last few pages of his declamation.

Martyn let himself be escorted into Jayme's solar. "My lord," he bowed himself on one knee, "I hope you can forgive the holes left in your doorway from the nails posted there. I'm a man rich in words, but poor in coin."

"That is quite alright," replied Jaymes, who had been unaware of the previous state of his front door. He let it slide as he felt slightly uncomfortable about the man kneeling as there was no need to do so. "Please, rise," he said, and stood himself to shake the septon's hand. "Martyn Westerling, was it? My uncle Roland has told me a little about your ideas and I must say, I naturally found myself agreeing with them. I suppose you are looking for protection and ways to pass on the word?"

I suppose you are looking for protection and ways to pass on the word?" Martyn rose and took Jaymes' hand. "Aye, a third son of the Crag, doomed to obscurity." He made note of the papers on Lord Jaymes' desk. "I see you're already making yourself familiar with them. You are correct in your assessment. My biggest impediments to these ideas are a quick arrest on my part, and a lack of distribution in either the Westerlands or the Reach. I suppose you would be amiable to both?"

"Well, I am certainly not going to arrest you," he said in good humour. "Have you spoken to the septon here in the city yet? I would help to gain at least some religious support." He sat down again behind his desk and motioned for Martyn to take a seat as well. "We are about to march down to the Reach, how would you attempt spreading word in the conditions of an all-out war?"

"My thanks. It's arrest by the Faith or the Tyrells that concerns me more. I have not yet had an opportunity to speak with the Septon in Lannisport about these matters, but he and all the other septons both here and the Riverlands might be the key to all of this." He glanced at the maps on Lord Jaymes' desk. "Outriders, proclamations, and Ravens, we'll need all of those. It's easy enough for three men on horse to ride into a village, nail up a parchment and ride on....and I'm sure that will be necessary. More importantly though is to harness and bridle the loyalty of the septons, especially the itinerant ones. Those who sleep under hedges. Offer them protection, offer them a place at the table, and they will spread the news of King Bryden's divine right as a king, and the High Septon's folly with far more effectiveness than any outrider. A familiar face, the cloak of holy authority that comes with a Septon's cowl, and Lannister gold. That's what will win this battle of words."
He paused, "and if there are some that disagree, I sugget that King Brynden exercise his authority given of the gods to replace them with those more pliable."

"I can do that," Jaymes replied with a nod. "I better talk to the king about this as well, though. Meanwhile, you can speak to my steward and the captain of guards about the distribution. They will spare you coin and men. It is probably for the best to assign you guards, as well. Can never be too safe, even at our own houses, it seems. While I have faith in this endeavour, I can unfortunately not spare overly much time for this as I have a war to prepare for. My people will provide everything, however."

"Of course...though if you don't mind me saying, this war of words and faith might be just as tied up in your endeavours. Your help is appreciated," Martyn paused. "Words are wind...but if it means anything this isn't about personal gain or power for me. Maesters' books and Septons' prayers have taught me that if there is to be any peace in these Seven Kingdoms all those who would presume to speak for the gods, be it Septon, Ironborn or a Red Priest must be brought to heel, crushed and made subject to the laws of Kings and Lords as must all men."

"You do not strike me as a man out for his own hide and good fortune," Jaymes replied with a nod. "Perhaps I could get word about this to my sister at Eddard's Rest. Or have a letter delivered; as I am sure you are better with words than I. Her influence in the Goldlands is still strong. I am confident she could have both word and writing spread in no time."

"Lady Joanna? Or is it princess now?" Martyn paused, "the Starks have no great affinity for the Faith, though some of their house have been numbered among them since the days of Lord Eddard. Her help would be appreciated if it doesn't raise the ire of her new husband."

"I think that is the proper title now, yes" Jaymes replied. "You needn't worry about her husband. If it benefits us and undermines the Faith's doing, it should all be fine by them. We are, after all, allies."

Martyn nodded. "Perhaps I shall take my leave then. Maybe even a visit to Eddard's Rest is in order? If reform of the sort I'm considering is in order, then the backing of the Starks, followers of the Seven or not, is vital. They hold the Vale and the Riverlands, and contain almost as many followers of the Faith as the Westerlands and Reach combined, however many might be praying at the weirwoods these days. Sundering them from a corrupt High Septon is just as important there as it is here if this is to gain momentum."
