The river Mander is the largest river in the Reach. It is a large, powerful but slow-moving river, wide with snags and sandbars to trap the unwary ship.
The upper reaches of the Mander are muddy and rough and as they near Highgarden, they settle down and become clear and calm.

Ser Harys Farman, the brother-by-marriage of Lord Tyrell, arrives at the docks along the river to see the master in charge of the docks. He notes several warships lie at anchor nearby in the deepest part of the river.

Kevan of the Mander, a man in his early forties, welcomes him in. "Ser Harys, I hope the day finds you well."

"It does Kevan." Harys knew the man reasonably well, given that he often frequented the docks.
"I have an order from Lord Rycherd, countersigned by Ser Godfrey Flowers. I am to take our available warships and patrol the Mander down to its mouth and along either side of the coast for signs of Ironborn activity."

Kevan reads it over. "Very well then, ser. We got a dozen corsairs and two galleons manned right now."

"Excellent!" replied Harys, beaming. "Then I shall get underway as soon as possible. I'll take one of the galleons as my flagship and hold a meeting with the ships' captains within the hour."

After a short meeting with the ships captains, Ser Harys gives the order for the small fleet to start their journey downriver, heading for the mouth of the Mander and then turning north along the coast.
In one of the galleons, Harys scans the river ahead looking for signs of possible hostiles.

A scouting corsair reports that an enormous fleet is perhaps' a full days' sail west of the shore.

Ser Harys orders his small fleet to prepare for possible battle and halts at the mouth of the Mander. He sends the scouting corsair to find out the identity of the enormous fleet.

After another twelve or so hours, he is informed it is the Iron Fleet, headed south far and wide, claiming they are headed to Essos.

Harys orders his fleet to track the Iron Fleet as at as safe a distance as possible, at least until the Ironborn are safely past the Arbor and the Redwyne Straits.

As they head south, they meet a contingent of the Arbor fleet. After about three weeks of sailing, the force has headed east past Dorne.

Harys greeted the contingent of the Arbor Fleet, sending one of his trusted men aboard the Arbor fleet's flagship in order to exchange information.

The Arbor Fleet is commanded by one of Lord Redwyne's nephews; his son being at Casterly Rock.
