Arania looked very curious, wondering what sort of person Delangue must have been to get that reaction. She was about to ask when she suddenly saw the princesses ride off. "Looks dangerous. I hope they don't expect me to ride so fast to catch up to them..." She glanced at Reyna, who had joined their party a little later. "Oh, Reyna! I'm so glad to see you again. I could almost hug you, if this horse wasn't in the way."

Reyna grinned at Arania. She was pretty relieved to see someone she actually knew.
"I feel the same. I'm not good with horses, so I don't think it's wise to attempt it. These northern women must be trained to ride since infancy. I swear I never saw any woman ride so fast before."

She laughed. "I'll have to practice, I think, or I will never fit in here. Riding was never a pastime of mine, I fear. Perhaps they take to horses because they haven't any books."

"No books? Can nobody in the North read then?"
Reyna was genuinely shocked.
"I love books! I hope there are at least some here."

Arania grinned. "That isn't what I meant at all! I simply meant that there are certainly far fewer books here than where I grew up. Though I am sure that it will not be long before Winterfell boasts a formidable library!"

"Oh, let's hope not. But Oldtown has the best library in the world, doesn't it? So any library must seem small to you," Reyna observed. "Are you going to add to Winterfell's library?"

"It has, and they do, for the most part. Sirius has got a very nice collection in his summer palace, though, back in Meereen. I am afraid I accidentally stole one of his books. He'll probably never miss it, though." Arania giggled, though her eyes looked thoughtful and pensive.

"Indeed?"
Reyna thought back to her meeting with Sirus a little sadly. Meeren had seemed very nice but it wasn't for her.
"What kind of book was it?"

"A history of one of the wars between Valyria and Ghis...the old empires, that is. The books quite old itself, and very interesting." She was quit a moment, as if thinking. "Sirius is a strange man, is he not?"

"Yes. Very strange. He asked me to marry him, but of course I could not accept," Reyna confided. "If I were a free woman I might have agreed. I don't seek that kind of power but it's a rare man who offers it to a woman. And it would have been better than the Iron Islands. But I'm sure the North will be better still."
She grinned.

Arania looked at Reyna oddly. "He gets stranger by the minute. He asked me as well, you know. I wonder if he makes a habit out of asking women who are otherwise committed to Northerners." She laughed sharply. "It would have been nice to spend my days riding dragons and chattering away in Valyrian, to Valyrians, but..." She remembered Amelia's face as she left to go even further east. "Well, I couldn't, obviously."

"Yes. You'd think the king would have done his research a bit better, wouldn't you? Did you get to ride the dragon?"

"I am sure that he was well aware of our prior engagements." Arania shrugged. "He just seems like a very lonely man, I think. And no, I would never...!" She sputtered, blushing. "Oh. You meant Rhaenys. Yes, I did."

Reyna had to laugh at Arania's embarrassment.
"I wasn't even thinking of...that! That's odd. Considering the lands we hail from, I should have been the one to think of it. But no matter. It was wonderful, wasn't it? Riding the dragon."

"Oh, it was!" Arania breathed excitedly. "To see all the lights of the city so far below, and the wind rushing past my face and through my hair..." She sighed, glancing at Ella apologetically, feeling a bit bad to leave her out of the conversation in such a way.
