"War, of course. The same war that drove the Targaryens to Westeros, to seek your aid." He sighed. "So expensive out there; our best trade route ruined by Ghis and Yunkai. Makes it hard for Qartheen ships to pass."

"Have you spoken to the Targaryens about this unfortunate situation?" Amelia asked him. "What is this war even about? Are they trying to conquer lands or...?"

"The Targaryes seek to recreate the Valyrian Freehold. New Ghis, naturally, takes exception to the recreation of the empire that destroyed their old civilization. It wasn't so bad...until the dragon arrived." Callan looks deep into Amelia's eyes. "The greatest that ever lived, some say."

Arania looked up from her bits of cheese at the mention of the dragon. "What is so terrible about the dragon?" she asked without thinking. As soon as she spoke she regretted it, feeling that she had spoken out of turn.

"Apparently it is black-scaled and larger than most buildings. It would eat the other one alive and chew its bones." He looked at her. "And, my lady Arania Hightower of Oldtown, it is out of control."

Black-scaled...the one Prince Aenys had mentioned to her was green. Two of them, and the black one gone mad. "So there are two, then. And the Targaryens only control the one?" She chewed her lip, wondering where the black one could have come from. "That is very interesting," she said, scouring her brain for anything she could remember regarding dragons.

Supposedly, the Queen Daenerys had hatched three somehow. "Yes, my lady. I have heard only whispers of the story, but supposedly it burned Vaes Dothrak to the ground, and sank a fleet of Ghiscari ships by itself, and then turned on Yunkai and killed thirty thousand in a single day."

"Evidently we are putting ourselves in a lot of danger going east," Amelia said, a slight smile on her lips. "Nevertheless, perhaps we will find out more information regarding the dragons from the Targaryens themselves. It seems only two are accounted for?"

Arania nodded. She couldn't begin to imagine the size of the first dragon, the green one Aenys had told her about, much less this giant black one...it hit her then. Tristessa had mentioned it, before Aenys shushed her. She went back to just listening, more closely now than before.

"The third was killed by the Ghiscari, or so I heard." Callan shrugs. "They do like to boast, though."

"They killed a dragon?" Amelia asked, partially unbelieving and partially impressed. "I wonder how such a thing would be done."

"Betrayal," the fat triarch said. "But I am sure the Targaryens can tell you more." He offered more wine, and Kalvin takes a glass. "My concerns, naturally, are what Westeros intends to do. My city is the last port that can offer resupply to fleets, and I have no love for either of the warring parties."

"We would not wish to do anything that would prolong this war, Lord Callan," Amelia said, nodding pointedly. "Information gathering and mediating are our primary concerns for now."

"Good, good," he says, rubbing his hands together. "I do hope you enjoy your time in my city. Please feel free to stay anywhere you would like. I am sure a few days away from the ship will be good on the stomach, yes?"

"Oh definitely," Amelia said, having felt queasy for a lot of the time aboard. "May I inquire if there is to be a feast? I feel like eating proper foods after so much dried food... eurgh, it wears on me!"
