"I'm a princess; I still have a responsibility," she mentioned in a much firmer voice, with a touch of pride. "And you could hardly have done a better job saving me." She has a touch of wine on her breath, too, but far less than her mother.

Benjen nods. "It is done now and nothing can be changed. I am glad that Dorne and the North can forge a stronger friendship through what has happened." He gave a disbelieving laugh. "I still cannot quite believe it happened."

"I am glad you can laugh at it, Prince Benjen," she whispers. "After seeing that...sept, I do not think I shall ever sleep through the night again." Her hand is still gently clasping his after the kiss. "Who has that sort of power?"

"From what I hear, Cassadar was behind it," Benjen said, suddenly aware of the hand. "It seems as if he has allied himself with several other renowned rogues... but for what purpose?"

Nina leans forward so her hair barely brushes the sides of his face. "Someone as powerful as Cassadar wouldn't ally with them. He'd dominate them. He must be able to give them something they all want."

What did Ami say about Saltcliffe's leg...?
"He... he has healing powers," Benjen said quietly, too in thought to notice how close Nina stood. "Or one of his men... no, there has to be something else."

"A trade, then. They can get him something he wants if he can do...whatever he does for them." She shudders violently. "Ser Ilyn Lordsbane wanted me..."

"You are safe... for now, Nina," Benjen said supportively. "I imagine your mother will double, or even triple the guard surrounding you."

"So they can all die too...I saw him. Cassadar, it must have been. He killed all four of my mother's men like they were standing still. Martyn got me in that room and Cassadar beat on the door, then those other men showed up and he said he had more important things to do then take me...and to...to....take me like they took the Royce girl..." All of the strength in Nina Martell gives out at that moment. "He said they had a house for women like me in Braavos. He said if I didn't come out I'd go there and service men until I was older than Rickon Stark, and only then would he slit my throat."

Benjen listened to Nina with an increasingly disturbed expression. When she was done he stood there, his face set in a grim scowl. "He will pay, Nina. He will pay. A man like that has given up every right he had, few as they may have been."

Nina nods. "If you say it, I know it's true." She kisses him gently on the cheek. "Thank you."

Benjen smiled at the girl, remember... when another girl had stood this close to him. "Princess Nina, you must not thank me. I did what I had to." He was saying that a lot. "I will see you at the tourney." He gave her another nod and left.

Prince Benjen arrived at the chambers, leaving his group behind in the hallway.

The chambers are nearly deserted with people watching the tourney. Only the lonely guard Martyn sits in the main chamber, the Princess Nina near him. She looks at him with a sad smile. "Prince Benjen. Congratulations."

"Thank you, Princess Nina," Benjen said, noting the smile and not sure how he should respond to it. "How come you are not watching the melee?"
