Hannah arrives, having left their son in the care of a rock nurse. Hannah despised any not of the true faith. "Yes, my lord? Coming for some last bit of luck I can grant you?"

He put aside the book he had been reading. As Hannah knew well, Ragnar always had a book or two to hand when he was in his chambers.
"Aye. Luck is part of it, but I thought we might have some fun too. Might as well take one last chance to sire another babe on you." He grinned, then barked at the thrall who was taking a few books off the shelf to be packed into his travelling chests.
"Careful with the spines, you gutless bastard! I'll use your bloody skin for leather if you do any damage."
He then turned back to Hannah and showed her the open book, filled with drawings of men and women copulating in various positions, some of them looking rather uncomfortable. "Lyseni," he said. "I had it off a merchant during my last voyage. Thought I might take the book with me, to amuse myself in the long nights without you. Care to provide me with some inspiration first?"

She looks at the pages, thinks a moment, then turns it upside down. "That looks more fun, my lord," she said, grinning.

Ragnar smirked. "It does indeed. Soon enough. Ale? You'll be responsible for Drumm Hall and Old Wyk itself in my absence. Rule wisely and well. I know you will show no weakness. But I'd best return to find my salt wives still living. Beat them if you must, they require it now and then. But I'll not have my property taken from me. Not even by you."

"I ruled for a year whilst you sacked Mantarys, already," she said. "And your lands prospered. They will again." She rolls her eyes at the salt wives. "You kill one salt wife, you never hear the end of it."

"Two," he corrected. "I am quite happy for you to drown heretics, my dear, but I know you won't wish to shame me by losing my salt wives. I've no wish to look like a man who cannot keep his salt wives. I know you don't wish that either." He put his feet up on the desk and saluted her with his tankard while the nervous thrall continued the packing. "How is the boy?"

"Strong," she said. "He is surviving the winter without issues. He will be ready to wield Red Rain one day I have no doubt." Hannah makes a face. "No Dornish saltwives. I cannot stand the way they cook and you smelled like diarrhea when you fucked that last one. Why not bring home a Lyseni or something?"

"If I can, I will. That Lyseni merchant from only had a fat, ugly concubine, and I didn't want her. I gave her to one of the lads. We;ll have to wait and see what ships I come across. I doubt the king wishes to raid Dorne. They are hardly wealthy there. There's little but sand and vipers in Dorne, at any rate." He shrugged and drained his tankard. "Perhaps one day you would care to join my pleasures with the next salt wife I take."

She shook her head. "I would not sully myself with such trollops. Find a good rock widow and perhaps."

That made him laugh. "Mayhaps, though I daresay any young and pretty widow would be snapped up quickly enough. But the Drowned God might favour us if we ask him nicely." He winked. "Tell me, have you had word from Blacktyde recently?"

"Father will be at Old Wyk, but he is too old for the reaving," she said. "His ships are ready though."

I'm glad to know it. It will be good to have the fleet together again. As much as I enjoy the time with you at home, I like the sea even better." He grinned. "I'd be a piss poor captain if I didn't."

"If you say so," she said. "It is sad, though; you leave for so long getting women who are younger and younger while I just get old and fade away to a crone..."

"That's hardly my fault," he said. "My duty is in strengthening our house with plunder and in seeding the wombs of maidens from the greenlands. Your duty is here, safeguarding our land while I am at sea, and in ensuring the children of Drumm Hall grow up strong and brave. Try bathing in virgin's blood to keep the skin clear and youthful. I read an old tome recommending it, long ago. But perhaps it was just a bad translation from High Valyrian."
it was impossible to tell whether or not he was being serious.

"where am I supposed to find a virgin in this castle!?" she said. "Bring one home sometime and I shall."
