"Now I get paid," he said. Olyvar Manderly comes out and hands him some gold and the man leaves silently.
"Seven gods alive, he wasn't cheapp."

Morgan stared at Olyvar. She had been wondering if he was truly her friend and now relief swamped her.
"Thank you. However did you manage it? I thought the maesters had bought you too, the same as they bought all the others."

"Money talks," he said. "I'm lleaving Oldtown today. Hopefully my brother and Lor dKalvin come back and burn this place to the fucking ground."

Morgan winced. He was her only friend here, other than Sara Banefort. She wondered if she should ask to go with him. She wanted to study at the Citadel but she was beginning to wonder if she would ever be allowed to do so in peace.
"Why though? Because of what happened to me?"

"Do you even have to ask?!" he said. "They threatened me! If my brother hadn't hired Mareth before I'd have been left to hang."

"Oh, they asked you to testify against me? Bastards," she snarled. She glanced all around in worry. "I don't know what to do. It seems I can only stay if I conspire to ruin the other women here, and I don't want to do that. And they will never take back their horrible lies about me. But I can't get home without assistance, and I don't know what happened to my belongings." She hesitated. "Could I go with you for a while? We could say you rescued me from the Ironborn or something. I never had the chance to write to my father, after all."

Olyvar nods. "I'm riding north in half an hour."

"Of course. Do you know what happened to my belongings? I hate to come with you as a pauper, but I had a little money. Not enough for a horse, but some. I could sell my books if it helped. If I can find them."

Olyvar shrugs. "I haven't been back to the room since they took you," he said. "I'm not that dumb." He shakes his head. "They fooled me once, the old bastards, but never again. Going to kill our maester when we get to White Harbor, too. Fucking spies."

"Fine," she sighed. She was very worried about travelling with nothing more than the clothes she stood up in and the short sword she'd taken from the guard, but it couldn't be helped.
"Are we going to ride all the way north? Or find a ship when we reach a port?"

"Not sure yet," he admitted. "I'm taking this one step at a time." A carriage arrives. "And here's our ride." He opens the door and hops in.

Morgan followed quickly. "Bastards,2 she said again, not caring if he thought her language unladylike. "I thought they would be different, you know? That they were the most noble order in the world. Stranger take them to the seventh hell!"

"Maybe some are," he said. "I get the feeling this is some new order of them. If they were this blatant about it they'd have been eradicated long ago." The two are in the carriage, which is spacious and comfortable. Olyvar drinks wine looking out the window. "Thirsty?"

"Yes. They gave me only enough food to survive on, and it was only bread and water. Gods be good, they were monsters," she said. "How did you find me?"

"Pure talent," he said with a cocky air. He hands her a blanket. "You look kinda pretty right now with that on but you might wanna cover up," he said. The wine tastes good for sure. Going to be hard resisting the urge to drink it all.
