Errr.....it's been three years in RL and I couldn't be bothered to look it up, so refresh my memory. What did Tyrell supposedly do or not do to Ghaston? And to answer your question: Rycherd requested some Warrior's Sons from Ghaston after the incident at Mason's Keep to help root out heretics and sorcerers in the Reach so Rycherd wouldn't be seen oppressing his own people. Ghaston obliged, supporting a loyal son of the Seven, with a good chunk of his knights and his cavalry commander. Then when the war broke out between the Faith and the Kingslands, Ghaston requested support from the Reach and was ignored. They lost a major cavalry engagement that would have likely been won with those knights and commander loaned out, in turn lost the battle that some reinforcements would have made a difference in, and finally lost the war with Ghaston dying. As a cherry on top and final insult, the man that ignored the call to defend the Faith was named Defender of the Faith. So, yeah...it's not going to be a pleasant reunion in the afterlife. In fact it wasn't ignored. I sent the following letter in reply. To Knight-Commander Ghaston the Grey from Lord Rycherd Tyrell, Lord of Highgarden, Defender of the Marches, High Marshal of the Reach' and Warden of the South, greetings and salutations, Know that we shall answer your call to defend Summerhall, but we have been displeased at the lack of consultation in this matter of the Faith's attack on Blackhaven. One would have surmised that a subsequent attack on Summerhall would have taken place and that the Goldlands might well have been drawn into a war for which it is not ready for. My cousin the King will, I think, be most displeased. We have endeavored to remain a faithful servant of the Seven as our recently issued Edict as demonstrated and we shall do our duty by the Seven in this case. We shall proceed to Summerhall at our earliest possible convenience. I then looked up my orders and sent 15,000 men to Summerhall.

The Late Lord Rycherd Not at that stage. The same day I sent that raven in reply to your message I ordered the following: The Highgarden Host of 25,000 men is to first proceed to Ashford. From there it will split into two hosts. 1. Tyrell Host Tyrell of Highgarden: 8,000 Caswell of Bitterbridge: 3,000 Oakheart of Old Oak: 4,000 Total: 15,000 men To be placed under the command of Lord Rycherd Tyrell. Destination: Summerhall. (the Faith Militant) 2. Tarly Host Tarly of Horn Hill: 3,000 Total: 3,000 men To be placed under the command of Lord Morrys Tarly. To move to Bitterbridge to guard the Roseroad into the Reach 3. Rowan Host Tyrell of Brightwater Keep: 3,000 Rowan of Goldengrove: 4,000 men Total: 7,000 men To remain at Ashford as back-up force (reinforcements) To be placed under the command of Lord Rowan (or Lord Ashford if he is available). All happened on Nov 3rd 2012. From there it was up to TFG. So I'm not sure where this idea that Ghaston was abandoned by Rycherd came from.

My boss is fond of the phrase "perception is reality." It definitely applies in this case. At the end of the day, Tyrell arrived at Summerhall well after the battle was already lost. Much like with Frey, I do not think the perception would have been that he did all he could to aid the Faith in its time of need.

Ghaston himself knows that a raven was sent back to him the same day in the affirmative. Orders were issued straight way followed by a subsequent movement of troops. Most would understand that moving large hosts is a slow process. The late Lord Ghaston will no doubt be issuing an apology to the late Lord Rycherd.
