The great fortress, possibly the strongest in the entire world. Storm's End is nearly impervious to direct assault, but the army camped outside it is more than vulnerable to attack. By the time Hector and Vikary's massive host reaches the castle, and the Ironborn fleet circles from the north to cut any potential reinforcements off, the once-mighty armies of the Kingsland have fewer than twenty thousand men.
As the Goldlands army camps, ambassadors are exchanged, words are spoken, and offers introduced, but in the end, apparently King Aaron has decided that he will die on his feet before he will live on his knees. Fifty thousand men from across the continent gather to make his desire come true.

Lord Lyonel Vikary, accompanied by some of the northern lords of the Goldlands many of whom are his relatives and friends sets up camp. Lyonel orders his men to set up basic fortifications around their camp site including a ditch and some sharpened stakes. In times of war it paid to be careful.

Hector wanders over to him. "Lord Vikary," he said, "take the right flank with the cavalry and grant King Aaron his wish for an honorable death," he said. "You hurt them badly at Bitterbridge, and now we end it. Seven be with you tomorrow."

Lyonel nodded. "Cedric Dayne will command what cavalry he has left. A formidable opponent. We would do well not to underestimate him or the Baratheon."

The Ironborn force disembarked, forming the left flank, King Killion making his way to the Goldland's command tent in fine spirits as he was announced, flanked by his Reapers.
"Fine day for a battle!" he remarked to the Goldlanders within, biting into a bright red apple that he had apparently snatched from a barrel of Fossoway rations on the way. "I always liked Aaron, so let us hope he makes a fight of it at least."

"Cedric and the rest of the Order fled for Sothoryos,' Hector said, "this...army is the rump of what we were going to face."
As Killion is announced, he rubbed his chin and let out a breath. "King Killion," he said, "I think we can be in agreement that, any other failings the man may have had...not really sure what those were, to be fair, but he won't go down quiet." He looked over at the smaller Stormland army. "At least he won't make us sit here for a fucking year while we starve him out."

"Other than harboring sorcerers you mean." he added, with a pointed look, sinking his canines into the ruby red apple. "As I said, I am quite fond of the man, but for our kingdoms to grow some must lose. His insistence on facing us only makes me fonder of him still. I always did enjoy the concept of the noble foe."
"Now how was your march? Besides long."

"These lands suck," he said. "It rained three of every four days." At his talk of sorcerers, Hector raised an eyebrow. "I believe you'd have fallen guilty for that charge, yourself, until a month or so ago," he said. "So perhaps he isn't too far behind the times." He considered another moment. "I hope your meeting at the Rock went well."

"Cedric and the rest of the Order fled for Sothoryos,' Hector said, "this...army is the rump of what we were going to face." Lyonel felt a mild stab of disappointment at the news of Cedric's fleeing, He would have liked to have pitted his abilities against the man one more time. One day he supposed he would get the chance. The Order would return. "Then let us finish this." he said to Hector. "Our Ironborn 'friends', have arrived. The time has come."

"Conquer Dorne the next time if you hate the rain, not the land where every other keep or forest has the word storm or rain in its name." he replied dryly. "As for the trouble with sorceresses, aye it was a lesson hard learned. Best to ensure no one else repeats the mistake."
"I doubt I would be here had my visit not gone well. Your wife and I came to terms we both found agreeable."
He nodded to the Lord of Castamere.

"I hate the desert too," he said, "better to be wet than to be dehydrated." He bites an orange. "Speaking of, when can we expect you to crush Mantarys? I've heard a regular old river sorceress holds court there, on behalf of your dear friend Vhagus. I've even heard awful rumors," he said, "that Vhagus may be a sorcerer too."

"I've heard the same troubling reports, but the man is family." he replied, with a thin smile that did not quite meet his eyes. "Best focus on the problem elements in the west before trying to untangle the viper's nest that is the east."

"Well, good luck," Hector said. "I must agree with you on the point that sorcerers are people of great danger. I think we've killed the most adventurous ones in Westeros, though." He cracked his knuckles. "Aaron and his Kingsguard will be at the center, I think," he said. "He'd never not lead from the front. Once he dies the bloodshed can cease." He picked up his helmet. "Until then, let's make a fucking graveyard out of this rain cursed land."

"I couldn't have said it better myself." Killion smirked, returning to his own forces and preparing for battle.
