"Lot of war and lawlessness,@ he said. "And Lord Stark can't be everywhere at once. When he sits at Winterfell no bandit dares plague the North, but if the wolf is away the jackals can prey." "Thankful then that the wolf pays so well for jackal pelts." Letho replied. "Best go skin me some. Anything else I should know of my quarry?"

"He's more dangerous than any kid-diddler should be," Red said. "Sometimes even uses night soil on his arrows. Disgusting fiend."

"Animals." he remarked, noting the irony that Leland was right outside. "I best be off then. Work to be done it seems. We'll head towards Barrowton and see what we turn up."

"Stop by the Grocer, stock up on food. My treat," he said. "Kill them quick; they're more dangerous than they are disgusting, and that says a lot."

"It is an unworthy predator that plays with its prey." he said, departing. The trio stocked up on food for the journey and continued towards Barrowton, inquiring with those they passed along the way of news of the bandits and keeping a sharp eye out for signs of their presence.

The road to Barrowton is full of tales of strange events, of cannibal wild kings and vengeful ghosts. The most promising lead comes from Riggin's Peak, a small mountain capped by a tiny fortress to overlook the lands. The local lordling greets the travelers with suspicion. "Welcome," he said. "Not often we see travelers armed like you."

"Travelers like us are the reason for that." Letho answered, with the ghost of a smile despite his gravelly tone. "Bit of a paradox, but we're here for honest coin."

The man chuckles. "Predators hunting predators, eh? Fair enough. Have to be dangerous to hunt dangerous. And this road has its share of dangerous."

"When you reach a certain age you come to realize the predators are the only worthy prey." he remarked. "Tell us of these dangers."

"The wildlings," he said. "True animals in the worst sense of the word. They've had dozens of bodies left in their wake, and I burned bodies right now are something of a menace, if you haven't heard."

"So many refugees fleeing south that it'd be hard not to. Dead rising don't mean there's not work to do. Don't dampen the need for gold in my purse or food in my belly." he explained succinctly. "These animals have a den or hunting grounds you know of?"

"Aye," he said. "they like the old abandoned barrows of the old kings. The locals won't go near them. I only will because I was at the Cotadel for three years and I know they ain't haunted."

(I can't escape these barrows)
"Care to serve as guide then?" he inquired. "We'll do the clearing out."

Leland looks around at the Barrows, his time in ghaston grey was dim and had the stench of death to it. But here among the dead centuries old, he felt chilled to his skeleton.

He shrugs. "Sure. Let me gather my gear. One tenth the reward," he said. "I can hold my own."
