"It is a nice historical city." Lucian replied broadly. "It would be nice for a vacation home." He looked over at his Admiral for a brief moment. "I am just curious, as one could say." "I agree that we can crush the Volans together. But perhaps our alliance will be more smooth if my Admiral is happy." Lucian didn't hear all that was said between Uhtred and Miranda, but a middle finger is generally a universal sign. "It would indeed and with Dayne's Volantene allies crushed and Tyrosh under heel, Sunspear would be ripe for you to pluck." Killion revealed his sharkish smile. "An endeavor I would be more than pleased to aid our Lyseni allies with once the time comes." "As for your admiral, feel free to inform her what I just informed you. I come here out of respectful courtesy, not necessity. Though if there is anything I can do to ease get mind, she need only voice it."

"They've dedicated plenty of client states' strength," she said. "Little enough of their own. They use money to wage war, not swords."

"It is known. Yet if this is one such gold-bought fleet, you know the composition of their sellsail fleets, few galleons if any can be maintained by the sellsails. We have them, and with Admiral Saim and the Ironborn, even their naval supremacy could be overcome." Uhtred sips from his cup "Otherwise, your trade is threatened on either side by Volantis and your trade liable to be cut off as soon as Volantis wants to. If you had the path to Westeros clear and the stepstones safe for you, that would be a monopoly that could be taken clear advantage of, catapult yourself even farther. Otherwise you're in a noose that hasn't been tightened yet."

"Ironborn have an odd habbit of overstaying their welcome, I hear," she said. "And a people who won't pay gold for things make poor trading partners."

Uhtred smiles "If I have my way, I'll be your neighbor, and can help keep my distant relatives stay in check. And that is a false rumour, though they do like to emphasize how great of pirates they as a people are. Their King paid good gold to builders and shipwrights to work for him, and I can assure you that just as any man, gold works on them just as well. You just have to... use different language when referring to it. Never mention straight up payments, use the term gifts and the like, and most arrangements can be made that way."

"I think a partnership would benefit us both," Lucian replied, somewhat convinced by what the Prince had said. He put his hands on the arm rests. "The Volans hide behind many mercenaries. An annoying obstacle." He shook his head and gave a sigh. "You are ready for war but I will need a few days to marshall my forces. I will command it so that your ships have space to dock."

"An Ironborn man is worth ten of those who fight for the gold in their purses." Killion replied with conviction. "Together we will sweep them aside and take what we deserve."
"As ever, you are a gracious host." he commended. "I will send word to my fleet that they may dock and take on provisions in your port." He knew the thralls would be given the gold to pay for the supplies, but such were the loopholes often employed.
"Do you have any sisters, Prince Lucian? For I have two unwed cousins who I am sure would leap at the chance to seal our alliance with a Lyseni bride."

"Why don't you take one for yourself?" Lucian asked his face showing that he was a bit slighted.

Harwyn, his part in the negotiation done, stood and moved to a corner of the room, watching both of the ongoing conversations silently.

"Why don't you take one for yourself?" Lucian asked his face showing that he was a bit slighted. "We only take one wife in my lands, at least one rock wife." he clarified, knowing that no salt wife ever brought an alliance...typically the opposite in fact. "And alas, I am unfortunately betrothed or I would be willing indeed. However, my cousin Langdon is now heir to the Arbor, where this vintage I have brought you is produced. Surely a family connection to one of the most renown vineyards in the known world would be of use to a trading nation, especially when it also ties you into the Greyjoy royal family. I am sure we could arrange a discount if you enjoy the samples I have brought."

Lucian didn't understand what a rock wife was. "Is this cousin here somewhere?" Lucian wanted to take a measure of the man in front of him, the prince's insistence on marrying a cousin to his sister gave him some bewilderment. Besides, if the Prince and his sister married, he could just tell his cousin to give him favourable trade agreements. "Do kings not have many wives in your lands?"

"In my lands we have many wives but one ranks above the rest; a rock wife, whose children take our name and can inherit land. Then, we have our salt wives; women captured as prizes in battle. Their children do not inherit our name or titles." Killion explained, attempting to breach the culture divide. "My cousin remains with his lord father, my uncle, at the Arbor. He would be the equivalent of a provincial government in the East, royal by our shared blood. I would be happy to arrange a visit."

Lucian's eyes narrowed and he nodded as he listened. The concept interested him. "I have many of these called 'salt wives'. So did my father. He took one woman as his wife after a time because he said he loved her. It is difficult to find someone to love amongst all the beautiful women isn't it? I think this is one of life's greatest challenges."
Lucian felt like discussing more about love and women, suddenly in a mood for discourse but the Prince wanted to discuss marriages more.
"I will bring my sister here and she can be sent to the Arbor to be this 'rock wife'."

"Blood is what determines who rules in the West, not coin." Killion added, attempting to illuminate the difference. "Bloodlines matter most of all and merging lines through marriage seals alliances. This marriage would make us family, bound aid one another."
He raised his cup at Prince Lucian's agreement.
"To new family, new glories, and new challenges." he toasted, with a wink at the last line.

"Excellent. I will have a party and feast set up for tonight." Lucian matched the Prince's toast.
"I am beginning to find Westeros much more interesting."
